On the 3rd day of Business Planning, my true love gave to me… a MISSION!
What’s your MISSION? Your business foundation is like a three-legged stool: in this case, Vision was the first leg, and Values were the second; Mission is the third.
Your Mission Statement is your declaration to the world of three things:
- WHAT you do;
- WHO you do it for; and
- HOW you do it.
This statement should be short, concise, and memorable. Short, as in a sentence or two at most. Concise, as in to the point – simple enough for your customers to be able to wrap their arms around. And memorable, meaning you should be able to pull it from memory. Additionally, consider this: what would clients say you help them accomplish, or what do you want them to say?
In our book, Snapshot Business Planning, we share some powerful examples from well-known organizations that beautifully articulate their mission. At McLean International, our mission is to help people to reach their Next Level professionally and personally, through strategic planning and proven processes.
STOP NOW and quickly answer the 3 questions above. You’ll find the 3rd leg of the stool is in place and you’ll have laid the 3 key foundation pieces for your business. Even if you have been in business for a long time, this is a GREAT time of the year to revisit your Vision, Values and Mission. It will set your business up for greater success in 2020.
Tomorrow, WATCH for YOUR Day 4 of the 12 Days of Business Planning where we’ll examine the first of eight key facets of your business. Stay tuned!
