Is Multitasking the Answer?

FocusIn a world of constant distractions, lack of focus is a common problem. There are times when multitasking may come in handy, however, there are downsides to doing many things at once.  Lack of focus on one thing at a time can cause us to make mistakes, miss subtle cues, and forget important information. The good news is,  you can train your brain. In order to increase your focus, you should eliminate as many distractions as possible. Turning off notifications on your email and smart phone while focusing on important tasks is an easy solution. Save the tasks that require a lot of concentration when your brain is rested and alert. Pay attention to what time of day you feel most vibrant and alert. For most, it is either in the morning or evening. Finally, practice mindfulness and being in the “now”. Meditation has been shown to improve concentration and focus. Fortunately, focus is a mental muscle that can be trained and strengthened through practice. So keep practicing and don’t let distractions get in the way of your success.
