Persistence is the path to success.
In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill states that persistence consists of desire and willpower. As a leader, you will face many challenges on your journey to reach positive business outcomes. You must be willing to do whatever might be necessary to overcome problems. Only then will you achieve success.
Leaders can take measures that will allow them to focus on what they really want, decide how to achieve what it is they want and thereby, display persistence. Here are five ways to reach your ideal outcome through your persistence.
1. Find Your Burning Desire
What do you really want? What do you hope to achieve? These are questions you should ask yourself regarding life and business. Identifying what you’re passionate about will help you determine your burning desire. When you find your passion, you will be able to better focus on that goal and, with clarity, identify any barriers that may hinder your success.
2. Set Achievable Goals
What do you really want? What do you hope to achieve? These are questions you should ask yourself regarding life and business. Identifying what you’re passionate about will help you determine your burning desire. When you find your passion, you will be able to better focus on that goal and, with clarity, identify any barriers that may hinder your success.
3. Exhibit the Willpower to Achieve Your Goals
Burning desire is one part of persistence. The other is willpower — the determination to do whatever is in your ability to experience the anticipated result. This requires making a committed decision to see success through to the end, which is engaging your willpower.
4. Bring the Right People Along
It is the duty of a leader to make sure that the right people are in the right places. Do those around you support your passion, your goals, your success? Are they as passionate as you about the success of your company? Being around team members and employees that support your vision will be critical when issues arise. They will display persistence and even provide you with valuable input to push your business onward.
5. Know When to Make Changes
Leaders need resilience and perseverance if they hope to solve any problems that will arise on their path to success. A leader must also be realistic about the issues and the options at their disposal to deal with them. As you move through a plan, you may find other solutions that better address the challenge. Doing whatever it takes to achieve a positive outcome means moving in a new direction when it makes sense to do so.
