5 Tips to Put Power in Your Affirmations for Better Results

When you start the day with positive affirmations, you lay the foundation and set the tone for a positive day.

Affirmations.  Done right, they can profoundly and positively shift your future.  Take the time to read on and discover how to make sure affirmations work for you and not against you.

Starting the day with positive affirmations can help set the tone and lay the foundation for a productive and positive day.  When you combine affirmations into your daily ritual, you will able to watch your words begin to transform your business and your life!

5 Tips to Put Power in Your Affirmations for Better RESULTS

Everyone talks about affirmations and a lot of people have them, maybe even listed out on paper somewhere.  However, are they working for you or against you?  Are you even recognizing that you are speaking affirmations?  Affirmations are also known as “self-talk”.  What are you saying to yourself about yourself, that you might not even realize you are saying?  Be purposeful and create affirmations that are connected with what you desire.

Unwittingly, the affirmations you are using may be keeping your goals and dreams at arm’s length, just out of reach.  For example, saying, “I want to lose 10 pounds” uses two of the canceling forces.  “I want” keeps the desired outcome from being a reality; it leaves the outcome hanging out in the future.  And “lose” infers it’s something that will eventually come back!

So, in this instance, a more powerful affirmation would be, “I am feeling great joy from the energy I experience and how I feel in my clothes now that I weigh _______ (state the amount you desire to be).”  They may seem like small things, however, the power that a correctly phrased affirmation has is more valuable than you can imagine, and by repeating it and taking the time the time to connect with how you will feel once you have achieved it is so worthwhile and valuable.

McLean International - 5 Tips to Put Power in Your Affirmations for Better Results

Here are 5 tips that will make your affirmations more effective.

Use the present tense

Describe what you want as though it already exists and has been accomplished.

Unempowered affirmation: “I am working to be off my blood pressure medication.”
Empowered affirmation:  “I am grateful to be medication-free and living a healthy lifestyle.”

Use a positive statement

When you focus on what you don’t want, that is what you tend to get.  Focus instead on the positive and what you really want.

Negative affirmation: “I am trying to be a better leader.”
Positive affirmation: “I am pleased to be leading by example in my weekly one-on-ones with team members.”

Keep it simple

Be short AND specific.  Lengthy affirmations are usually filled with words of doubt and distance you from your goals.

Specific affirmation: “I am feeling proud now that I see my mortgage balance at zero.”

Make it personally driven

You can’t wish someone else’s changes into existence. Affirmations must be all about YOU.  Avoid getting caught up with what someone else thinks you should be focusing on, or changes you want to see in others.

Personal affirmation: “I am thrilled now that we get to enjoy great family dinners together on a weekly basis.”

Create affirmations that are open-ended and limitless

Add the phrase “or more” or “or something better” to the end of your affirmation to encourage even bigger opportunities to come.

Limitless affirmation:  “I am so grateful now that my retirement savings is $1 million or more.”

If you have a solid list of affirmations you have been using, revisit your list and see whether any of these five tips can be applied to further strengthen them.  Then incorporate them as part of your morning ritual and enjoy the positive shift!
